The S4H members Dr. Bernardo, Daniel Caicedo, Simon Szabo, and  Georgios Vlachakis recently presented four conference papers at the 18th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (WCEE2024) in Milan.

The contributions were discussed at technical sessions focusing on the New trends in computational and experimental dynamics of historical masonry structures, and Local mechanisms in existing masonry structures (Numerical and experimental assessment, retrofitting)

The four papers regarded:

1. Expeditious methods for the out-of-plane seismic safety assessment of URM walls
2. Optimal intensity measure for the seismic assessment of a two-story stone masonry building
3. Influence of uncertainties on the compound rocking failure mechanism affecting masonry churches.
4. On the block-based numerical modeling of masonry dynamics
