One of the team members, Dr. Shaghayegh Karimzadeh was an invited speaker at the 18th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (WCEE2024) in Milan, Italy, in a session organised by Dr. Sanaz Rezaeian from USGS, Assist. Prof. Mayssa Dabaghi from the American University of Beirut, and Prof. Roberto Paolucci from Politecnico di Milano titled “GRM4-Simulation, Validation, and Utilization of Earthquake Ground Motions for Engineering Applications,” under the COSMOS working group’s efforts.
Dr. Karimzadeh shared recent advancements from the S4H project team in developing a validation framework for ground motion simulations tailored for masonry structures in collaboration with Dr. Rezaeian from USGS. The study analysed a real church in the Azores region (Portugal) subjected to the 1998 Faial earthquake, using both real and simulated records and performing quantitative and qualitative validation.
