The S4H team participated in the 8th International Conference on Computational Methods in Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, which was held between the 28th and 30th of June and streamed from Athens, Greece.
The S4H group presented its research with title “An Equivalent Viscous Damping Proposal for Block-based Rocking Models”. This work attempts to bridge the gap between the well-established energy loss of the classical rocking theory and the treatment of damping of block-based computational models. To do so, a unilateral dashpot viscous model is calibrated and a ready-to-use equation is provided, which respects energy equivalence. The performance of the proposed damping model is also evaluated through comparisons with experimental results.
The conference paper is available for interested readers here, while the complete conference proceedings will be made available soon by the conference’s organisers.
