The S4H Team has recently published a research paper in the Journal of Engineering Mechanics (ASCE). The paper numerically investigates the seismic rocking response of masonry walls exhibiting out-of-plane behaviour.
This paper bridges the gap between the well-established energy loss of classical rocking theory and the treatment of damping in numerical modelling. Importantly, it proposes ready-to-use equations of viscous damping with respect to the interface stiffness, the aspect ratio of the wall, and the coefficient of restitution.
