New Conference dissemination – 18 WCSI & 7 ICEES 2023

The S4H members Dr. Karimzadeh, Dr. Bernardo and Dr. Salvalaggio have recently presented five conference papers at the 7th International Conference on Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (ICEES 2023) held in Antalya, Turkey.

The contributions were discussed in the Seismology and Earthquake Engineering sessions along with the Special Session held by the COSMOS Ground Motion Simulation Working Group.

The five papers regarded:

  1. the comparison of real and synthetic ground motions for the L’Aquila region in Italy, using a masonry case study modeled through the Applied Element Method;
  2. the use of machine learning techniques to develop ground motion models of two intensity measures considering the Italian dataset;
  3. the analysis of the seismic behavior of masonry structures using code-based selected accelerograms;
  4. the performance of ground motion simulations using alternative approaches to simulate and validate the 1998 Faial event in the Azores islands (Portugal);
  5. the development of stochastic-vulnerability curves to support the seismic safety assessment of out-of-plane mechanisms.

Dr. Karimzadeh and Dr. Salvalaggio were also acknowledged for the contribution given by their works to the advancements of the COSMOS Ground Motion Simulation Working Group.

The main outcomes of these studies will be available in an e-book edited by Springer.
