A Seminar Given by Dr. Onur Kaplan

Dr. Onur Kaplan visited the University of Minho to give a lecture about a novel post-earthquake structural damage assessment approach using remote sensing data.

Dr. Onur Kaplan is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Earth and Space Sciences, Eskişehir Technical University, Turkey. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Eskişehir Osmangazi University. Dr. Kaplan served as a structural engineer for more than ten years in the private sector. He participated in many reinforced concrete (RC) building projects as a consultant, designer, site inspector, and project manager. He acquired his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in 2018 from Anadolu University. During his Ph.D., he studied the dynamic characteristics of residential mid-rise RC buildings. He proposed a new empirical fundamental building period estimation equation using ambient vibration measurements. His research interests are mainly centered on earthquake engineering and structural dynamics. His expertise ranges from operational modal analyses applications to numerical and analytical modeling of RC buildings and seismic safety assessment and monitoring of existing structures. As an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Earth and Space Sciences, he is responsible for structural health monitoring and seismic safety assessment activities. He teaches graduate and undergraduate civil engineering courses while also supervises master and Ph.D. students.
